Life has not returned to normal in South Florida, although most people are pretending that it has. All day Saturday and Sunday there was earth moving machinery in my neighborhood, scooping up piles of branches, waterlogged furniture, and other debris from the street.

I guess these crews have been at it for a while, since the boxcar-like trash haulers were equipped with underslung hammocks. Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em, I suppose.

only in Miami.
Okay, I need some pop culture help over here…
Where was “smoke ‘em if you got ‘em” first referenced?
I hear it every once in awhile and have no clue on the back story.
I’m not certain, MJ, although I know it is a military reference.
…perhaps it was used in those rare occasions when it was safe to light up a cigarette without fear of sniper fire.
