Ha-ha-ha-HA-ha!

The other morning I noticed a flash of red near my porch, and on turning saw two woodpeckers flying up into my date palm. One only stayed a moment before soaring off to hammer on the utility pole, but the other went about his business for several minutes, digging his way into the crevices between the trimmed fronds for tasty palmetto bugs.

While I was watching I noticed a particularly deep shadow high on the palm’s trunk. My suspicions were confirmed when the bird disappeared into the hole and didn’t emerge for several minutes: there’s a nest inside my tree. This would be rather cool and interesting, except that I’m not certain what effect this may have on the structural integrity of this tree. Hurricane season is coming, and I’d rather not have my roof destroyed by a woodpecker.

pretty soon they’ll be waking you up when they start pecking on the house…

That’s such a beautiful picture. The color on the bird really makes it.

Just in case the person who left the deleted comment is reading, a word of advice: leaving a promotional blurb for your book in the comments of an unrelated post isn’t a good way to inspire confidence in your work.

Hi! There are several woodpeckers around my building … palm trees pock-marked with holes … and no trees down! I certainly hope tree & bird can coexist in your property too. I love the sound they make when they are pecking!

Oh, I forgot to mention, anything this cute that can eat a palmetto bug is worthy of worship at an altar!

Since you sorta started it: At “The Big A” we sometimes recieve payments with small adverts in them for books written by the payor (or is that payer?). Once I found a used copy of one customer/author’s dramatic thriller on Amazon. So I bought it – just for shits and giggles. when I started reading it, I giggled over the fact that it was such a piece of shit. Couldn’t get past the first chapter.
