Public Parting

I knew I’d face various unanticipated difficulties in moving out of state after decades living in South Florida. However, I didn’t foresee this: Some very kind people and good friends have arranged a public going-away party for me on this Saturday, August 20th. To be honest, I’m a bit uncomfortable writing about it. Inviting people to a party in my honor feels — well, pompous and self-aggrandizing. It’s not the way I was raised; I’m kind of old-fashioned like that (and in no other significant way). Still, a couple of people have remarked on my failure to promote the event, one even asking if I was actually planning to attend. Hence this (vaguely creepy to me) post. So, to make it official:

Marc Kevin Hall
(aka @mkhall, aka “that Hidden City guy”)
in his last public appearance in South Florida!

One Day Only!

Saturday, August 20, 2011, 4–11:30pm!

Carrabba’s Italian Grill
3921 Collins Avenue
Miami Beach FL

Requests for autographs will be closely inspected for sarcasm.

RSVP via Tweetvite or Facebook, or just show up.
(I mean, it’s a public venue.)

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many members of South Florida’s digital community over the years. If you are so moved, I’d love to see you again before I sail into the West move to DC. And if we’ve not yet had the chance to meet, this would be a great time to do so. There are many local people with whom I wish I’d had the opportunity share a frosty tropical beverage.

My thanks to Miguel Lopez, Maria De Los Angeles, and Jami Reyes for putting this together. I may be embarrassed by the attention, but I am even more grateful for their friendship.

I hope to see you Saturday.

  1. I’m just glad you picked DC and not somewhere like Kansas City. Because now it’s just “see you later.”
