It would be wrong to talk about things returning to normal in Miami while New Orleans is on a possible death watch. When I first saw the tracking of the storm, the strengthening, the difficulty of evacuation, all I could think of was how well-scripted it all is. It’s as though God is submitting query letter to a studio.

One of the founders of the LiveJournal weblog system is maintaining a page listing people who chose to stay in the city and ride out Katrina. It’s creepy, and funny, and heartening. But mainly creepy. If the reports are remotely accurate, at least a couple of these people won’t make it. I really hope the reports are wrong.
Oh, and Tropical Depression 13 is waiting in the wings. It’s too far away to guess if it’s following in Katrina’s path, though.
